Rape victim kills self at
police HQ
Manveer Saini | TNN
Panchkula: Unable to bear the fact
that the policemen who had raped her were not only
roaming free but also threatening her to withdraw the
complaint, a mother of two consumed poison at the
Haryana police headquarters here on Monday.
Sarita, in her early 20s,
gave up her fight for justice at the PGI
Hospital in front of hundreds of agitated
people, her two children and a grieving
husband who was allegedly framed in a theft
case in Rohtak three months ago. She was
raped on the premises of the Crime
Investigating Agency (CIA) building where her
husband was lodged in April on the charge of
stealing a motorcycle, and chose the police
headquarters in Sector 6 to end her life
before her daughters Heena (6) and Muskan
(3), who were the only eyewitnesses to the
incident.
Maine goli kha li
hai (I have swallowed a tablet),
said Sarita to ADGP V B Singh while handing
him a two-page letter about her plight.
Despite DSP Neeraj Setias probe
had confirmed rape, neither were the
policemen arrested nor did the investigating
officers bother to get me medically-examined.
And the accused issued threats after they
failed to lure me with money, she
wrote. I have tried my best to get
justice but my voice has gone unheard and now
I am committing suicide, and head constable
Balraj and constable Silak Ram are
responsible for my death, the
letter said.

in land grab case
S Ahmed AliI TNN
Mumbai: Encounter specialist Pradeep
Sharma, who has been in the news for the wrong
reasons, is in for further trouble with fresh
allegations being levelled against him in a land
grabbing case.
In a statement to the Oshiwara
police, the complainant, Heena Kalbaug, has said that
on June 6, a person sent by Sharma had come to her
garment unit at Andheri and threatened her employee
Rifakat Ali. They told Ali to withdraw the
complaint registered against builder Alpesh
Ajmera, she said.
Sharma saheb has sent me.
Kalbaug should stop going to police headquarters,
meeting top officers to complain about Ajmera and she
should forget that property, is what the
man allegedly told Ali to convey to Kalbaug. By the
time Kalbaug reached the unit, the man had left but
sources said that he is believed to be a suspended
police constable.
Kalbaug said: My
civil dispute was going on with builder
Ajmera who is backed by Sharma. After my
employee was threatened, I went to the
Oshiwara police and filed a non-cognizable
offence. I was returning home in my car when
at Amboli naka, two unidentified men on
motorcyles smashed the cars windshield.
Before I could react, they fled,
she said in the FIR.
Kalbaug lodged an FIR with Oshiwara
police station. The basic purpose was to scare
me so that I withdraw the case against Ajmera. I
strongly suspect Ajmera and his close friend Sharma
in this attack. I have no other enemies,
Kalbaug added.
Though in the FIR, Kalbaug has
alleged Sharmas involvement in the attack, the
police have not mentioned him as accused. The police
have registered a case against two unknown persons.
When asked why Sharma was not made an accused, joint
commissioner of police (law and order) K L Prasad
told TOI, I do not know anything. You ask the
complainant.
Despite repeated attempts, Sharma
was not available for comment. Assistant commissioner
of police Dilip Suryavanshi said: We are
investigating the allegations.
It may be recalled that in November
last year, Alpesh Ajmera and Chhota Shakeel henchmen
Ram Narayan Singh alias Bacchi Singh were arrested by
the crime branch on charges of cheating, breach of
trust, threatening, housebreaking and theft.
Alpeshs two
brothersJayesh and Jiten who were also accused
in the case had obtained anticipatory bail. The
property dispute between Kalbaug and Ajmera dates
back to 2005. Kalbaug, who runs a supermarket in the
western suburbs with her husband Chaitanya, had
brought a plot measuring 2,000 square feet near
Bhavans college from Ajmera Builders for Rs
2.25 crore. Kalbaug paid Rs 1.25 crore as down
payment and for the balance amount, she applied for a
loan.
Kalbaug took possession of the plot
from Ajmera and started the business. But within a
few months after land prices shot up, Ajmera called
Kalbaug to his office in the presence of Bacchi Singh
and asked her to cancel the deal and surrender the
keys of the shop.
On July 19 last year, Bacchi Singh
barged into Kalbaugs residence and threatened
Kalbaug and her husband with dire consequences if
they did not sign the cancellation of deed. Though
Kalbaug complained to the D N Nagar police, it did
not have any effect and the she was forced to sign
the cancellation deed by the builders men.
