Election of 15
new MPs challenged in high court

Mumbai: A record number of petitions have been filed
before the high court challenging the elections of 15
out of the 48 newly-elected MPs across the state.
June 30 was the deadline to file election-related
petitions. As per the provisions of law, if a
defeated candidate is aggrieved by the outcome of the
result, he has to file a petition within 45 days.
Bhandara-Gondia BJP nominee Shishupal Patle has
challenged civil aviation minister Praful
Patels election. Patle, who had defeated Patel
in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, has accused Patel of
corrupt practices. Alleging that that there was
largescale bogus voting, Patle has claimed that Patel
exceeded the Rs 25 lakh limit on poll expenditure. In
Gadchiroli constituency, BJPs Ashok Nete
challenged the election Marotrao Kowase (Congress).
Nete has alleged that there was largescale bogus
voting and has submitted a list of bogus voters.
Patle and Nete have filed their petitions before the
Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court.
Barring Chuganis petition, most of the cases
have not come up for hearing before the court.
