various stages of undress
PUNE
MIRROR TEAM
Nearly two dozen highranking customs officials from
Mumbai were allegedly found watching some former bar
dancers, in various stages of undress, gyrating to
popular Bollywood numbers when Pune police raided a
bungalow in Khandala following a tip-off about
obscene goings-on at a party. All the officials were
allegedly drunk and some were watching a blue film on
a laptop.
The laptop
had some blue films on its hard disk. The
police also found a few DVDs of porn films,
cash amounting to Rs 1.09 lakh, a laptop and
several bottles of foreign liquor.
Police arrested the
officials, the women, four party organisers,
two DJs, the bungalows caretaker and a
driver.
Of the officials,
police said 12 are of superintendent rank and 10 of
inspector rank; all are from Kandivli and Malad
customs offices. The women are former employees of
dance bars at Charkhop, Malad and Kandivli.
THE PARTY PLAN
According to the police, all the officials were on
night duty at Sahar international airport on Monday
night. Apparently, customs officials get two days off
after working a night shift. In this case, the 22
officials allegedly decided to party at Khandala on
their off days.
The officials got in
touch with Hussain alias Antariksha, a party
organiser from Mumbai, and told him to organise a
party for them. Antariksha allegedly booked five
bedrooms in the bungalow, named Taj House, and also
hired the former bar dancers for two days by paying
Rs 20,000 to Sonu Bisvas Chaudhari, 21, a resident of
Asmita building at Malad (west), and her husband,
Raju alias Bisvas Bharundeo Chaudhari, 36.
On Tuesday evening,
the customs officials, party organisers and the
former bar dancers set out for the venue in a few
hired vehicles.
THE VENUE
Their destination was Taj House, which is a spacious
nine-bedroom bungalow located behind Hotel Fariyas.
Police say it belongs to Mohammed Yusuf, a garment
vendor from Mumbai, who purchased it a year ago.
Yunus had appointed Mohammed Shafiali Khan, 34, a
resident of Bangarwadi near Lonavala, to take care of
the bungalow.
According to the
police, the officials, party organisers and women
reached the bungalow around 5 pm. The party began
soon after that.
POLICE TIPPED OFF
Late on Tuesday night, inspector Bhausaheb Andhalkar,
who was involved in busting a rave party at Donje
village at the foothills of Sinhagad in March 2007,
received a tip-off about the goings-on at Taj house.
I immediately
alerted district superintendent of police Ravindra
Kadam who asked me to raid the place with help from
policemen from the local crime branch, Lonavala city
police and Lonavala rural police. The raid was
actually carried out by inspector Sudam Darekar and
Anil Patil, Andhalkar told Pune Mirror.
One of the policemen
who was in the team that raided the bungalow, says,
The party was in full swing when we reached Taj
House around midnight. Some girls were dancing
topless to the tune of Bollywood songs. A blue film
was being played on the laptop. All the customs
officials were drunk. We searched the entire
bungalow. After everybody present in the bungalow had
been accounted for, they were all taken to a hospital
at Kanhe Phata for a medical examination.
A case has been
registered at Lonavala city police station. They have
been slapped with charges under Sections 294 and 129
of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 33 (1), (2), 33
(W), 110 and 112 of the Bombay Police Act.
