Respected Sir,
Ours is a NGO in Mumbai called PLEAD ( People for
legal and Emotional Assistance to the Deserving )
with the main aim of combating corruption in the
police force.
It is observed through newspaper reports and personal
discussion with various individuals, that families of
those people who meet an untimely death, due to an
accident or some other cause become victims of the
most corrupt and disgusting behaviour of the police
and other medical authorities.
Close Relatives go to police first:
The police start harassing if it a case of accident
or suicide, they start threatening the relatives of
involving them in the "Murder" ... most of
the time the grieving relatives get frightened and
pay up to avoid harassment and bad publicity.
They go to Morgue:
Here again the relatives are troubled by the Doctors,
their assistants and the police and the handing over
of the body is delayed, sometimes upto 72 hours or
more, if the relatives refuse to grease the palms of
the Rogues.
What can be done:
Our NGO can create a feed back form, which must be
handed over to the relatives, when they come to
collect the body. This form may be returned within 30
days after the body is collected, to the Police
commissioner, with a copy to our NGO PLEAD.
At the time of collecting the body, the relatives are
in no mood to fight corruption of the dirtiest
kind... But after about 15 days when the initial
shock of loosing a dear one is overcome... These
families will be keen to inform, who all extorted
money from them...and keen to see that they are
punished ... when a number of families repeatedly
name the same doctors or police officials ... even
the courts will believe the facts are true.
We shall collate this information received from
numerous Relatives, publicise the names of the
Rogues, who have extorted money, from these
unfortunate families and follow up with the anti
corruption bureau, to check their assets, etc.
Most Important:
As soon as the system of form, returnable within 30
days is introduced, it will act as a great deterrent
to the corrupt to stop harassing the grieving
families, who have lost a close member, under
unfortunate circumstances.
Sir, please treat this letter of ours as a PIL and I
sincerely hope this will be taken up without any
delay.
