Amin,
Vanzara fight inside jail
Ahmedabad:
Frustration can be killing, and it seems to be
claiming the patience of encounter author Deputy
Inspector General of police DG Vanzara and Deputy
Superintendent of Police NK Amin. These policemen
arrested for faking the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter
attacked each other with cricket bats inside the
Sabarmati Central Jail campus on Monday night.
This was soon after the
Supreme Court order denying bail to Amin and
Rajasthan IPS officer Dinesh MN, dashed all their
hopes of getting out of jail.
Besides the statement of
another witness who claims to have seen Sohrabuddins
associate Tulsiram Prajapati also killed in a fake
encounter, could put Vanzara in deeper trouble.
Vanzara and Amin are
among the 13 police officers who have been
arrested for killing Sohrabuddin in a fake
encounter and then killing his wife, Kauserbi
and disposing of body to destroy evidence.
Jail inmates overheard the two quarrel where
Amin lost control and openly blamed Vanzara
for their misfortune. TNN

ex-cop held for looting 5 kg gold from man
They picked a jewellery-store employee from a
long-distance bus at Mankhurd, took him to Lonavla
via Kalyan, seized the bag of gold and left him
stranded there
MUMBAI
MIRROR BUREAU
Trombay police arrested five people including
a policeman and a former policeman on Monday
for looting 5 kg of gold from a man.
On April 11, the accused
allegedly robbed 24-year-old Bansi Gurjar, who works
with Kalpataru Jewellers at Zaveri Bazaar, when he
arrived from Secunderabad with the gold.
According to police, Shivaji
Mane, a 38-yearold constable attached to Special
Branch of Mumbai police and ex-constable 35-year-old
Shivaji Chavan stopped a Volvo bus near Mankhurd on
the Sion-Panvel Highway. Chavan was sacked from the
Thane Rural police force. On the pretext of checking
the luggage, the duo entered the bus and frisked
Gurjar. They asked him to accompany them, with his
luggage, to Trombay police station.
They had prior
information that Gurjar was carrying such a large
quantity of gold, says assistant inspector
Subhash Kokate of Trombay police station. Gurjar
did not oppose them as they both carried I-cards,
he added.
However, instead of taking
Gurjar to the police station, they took him to Thane
in an autorickshaw. From Thane, they hired another
rickshaw and took Gurjar to Kalyan. At Kalyan, Mane
left Chavan, and two other associates Shrikant
Gondhale (27) and Santosh Kurle (28) joined
him, pretending to be policemen. The trio then hired
a Indica car and took Gurjar towards Pune.
At Lonavla, the trio snatched the bag from Gurjar and
turned back, leaving Gurjar there. He returned the
next day and lodged a complaint with the Trombay
Police.
Gurjar was helpless
since the men were physically more powerful than him,
says subinspector Shivaji Raut, His only option
was to remain calm so that they wouldnt hurt
him. Gurjar had noted the colour and
registration number of the car which took him to
Lonavla. With the assistance of the Regional
Transport Office (RTO) they reached its owner Khalil
Inamdar, a resident of Kalyan.
Khalil described Chavan,
Gondhale and Kurle to the police and also gave them
their addresses. The police first picked up Gondhale
and Kurle from Kalyan. They then tipped the cops off
on Mane and Chavan, who were arrested from Vikhroli.
Police later arrested Chavans wife who helped
conceal the gold.
Besides
Shivaji Chavan, Shivaji Mane, Shirkant
Gondhale and Santosh Kurle, police also
arrested Chavans wife who helped hide
the stolen gold
