Since last 4 years, I had been working in Mumbai to organise educated elderly citizens, to form watchdog committees in each police station area. The going was tough, the word "Police" frightened the citizens, even the highly educated, however about 90 highly educated citizens joined me, that was not sufficient. In January 2008, ie about 15 months back, I filed a PIL in the Bombay High Court, seeking direction from the court, for expediting cases against the MPs and MLAs against whom chargesheets had been filed in courts. Most unfortunately it was dismissed by Justice Bilal Nazki, who for my efforts at fighting corruption, has threatened to send me to Judicial custody on 2 occasions.
Once on 11.9.2008 and next on 9.2.2008 ( this is actually criminal intimidation under the IPC but which police station will take a FIR against a HC Judge ). this Judge did not remember that on the 1st occasion, I told him "OK send me to Jail" ... He repeated it 2nd time on 9.2.2009, this time, it was I who insisted, "OK send me to Jail" (as a child would ask to be taken to Disney Land) ... He backed off . NO JUDGE IN THE COUNTRY HAS POWERS TO SEND YOU TO JAIL LIKE THAT ... Notice has to be issued first, thereafter a regular trial takes place... Only then can you be sent to jail ...Remember that ... Though the Citizens were afraid to join me in a crusade, to check the illegal activities of the Mumbai Police, I single handedly, went after them and got an order for DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL POLICE CHOWKIES ACROSS MAHARASHTRA ( Total 4,000 ). Now the Maharastra Government has filed appeal in the Supreme Court, where I have opposed their plea to Legalise the Illegal Chowkies ... Was in Supreme Court on 16.3.2009 ... I registered an NGO in August 2007 and filed my first PIL against illegal Police Chowkies, who had also pilfered power. Order of the court was on 26.10.2007 for demolition of illegal police chowkies across Maharashtra ( totalling around 4,000 ) within 3 months. However till today only about 100 chowkies, have been demolished in Mumbai, even the list of the other cities are not provided so far. ... In the meantime I discovered, the Addl Commissioner of Police (Traffic) was getting about Rs 3 crores EVERY MONTH UNDER THE TABLE after having provided facilities FREE to an Advertisement company, to put up ads at all traffic intersections across Mumbai (from which the company earns Rs 8-9 crores EVERY MONTH ) ...
